ABSTRACT

Ashi point is one of the three major categories of acupoint in acupuncture-moxibustion theory nowadays. It is originally recorded in Beiji Qianjin Yaofang (Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces for Emergency) as one of the effective folk methods. The theoretic development of ashi point goes through the innovation period of contemporary and modern acupuncture-moxibustion theory, specifically in three aspects, definition, property and status. Through the analysis of historical data, it is found that the bias of ashi point theory results from the misunderstanding of connotation, the distortion of application techniques, the misinterpretation of semantics and the gradual promotion of status. All of these are generally caused by the reform of acupuncture-moxibustion theory in Japan, which covers the essence of ashi point, limits its connotation and clouds the concept of acupoint. It is necessary to re-understand the literal sense and theoretic construction of ashi point and timely update the knowledge system of acupuncture-moxibustion in association with the results of theoretical researches.

Regarding the solely and historically extraordinary outstanding traditional acupuncture-moxibustion, the conceptual history research of it is the basis of understanding and recognizing acupuncture-moxibustion theory and also the root of its inheritance and development. ABSTRACT

At present, the science of acupuncture and moxibustion of traditional Chinese medicine faces to the "difficult circumstances at home and abroad", which needs to be deeply reflected in view of theoretic study. By analyzing the reasons of the difficulties in acupuncture-moxibustion theory and collecting the problems arising from the recognition, understanding and application of acupuncture-moxibustion, the four aspects of the countermeasures are proposed, i.e. strengthening the self-construction of acupuncture-moxibustion theory, intensifying the education and inheritance of acupuncture-moxibustion theory, enhancing the guarantee of the relevant policy mechanism and intensifying the thinking of acupuncture-moxibustion theory. It is believed that the most important, the most basic and the most urgent task is to give intensive consideration to the construction of acupuncture-moxibustion theory in the overall situation of the cause development of acupuncture-moxibusiton at present. Only by constantly consolidating theoretical support and insisting on inheritance and innovation, can the sustainable development of acupuncture-moxibustion medicine and health be promoted.

ABSTRACT

By analyzing the acupuncture clinical thinking polymorphism in the ancient and modern time,it is shown that the guidance theory systems of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy are on the diversity. Classic meridian system is part of the important composition of acupuncture theory system, and it is not the only one guidance for clinical acupuncture. In the ancient time, acupoints were according to local lesion, classical meridian therory, acupoint indication and effect, the disease, the syndrome, cold-hot and deficiency-excess features, pulse, time and season, meridian's - , and needling instrument, etc. In the modern clinical practice, the points are selected according to the above theories and the modern theories such as western medicine anatomy,as well as various micro-acupuncture systems and the new method theories. Through the analysis of the diversity of ancient and modern acupuncture theory, a preliminary idea of the acupuncture-moxibustion theory system is suggested including traditional theory system (classical meridian system, classical non-meridian system and classical TCM system), and modern theory system [nervous system (linear contact system) and non-nervous system (nonlinear contact system)].
